North Country Hardship Fund's 4th AnnualCabin Fever Party 1-31-15

All the news, videos, bands, videos, links and playlist in one place at Adirondacks Music blog! Finally!

What a party! 3 live bands playing multiple sets each all night long from 8p-1a on January 31, 2014 at Panther Mountain Inn, Chestertown, NY who hosted the benefit. The $5 cover charge was well worth supporting this local charity, not to mention all the entertainment, and door prizes galore (of which I didn't win any, not even the Harley paper bag I coveted, lol)

The 3 featured bands were Collette & the Mudcats, Larry Mar & the 11th Hour Band and a new group, the 1979 Band, all of whom were incredible! Following is a featured video from each band, band photos, band links and more! At the very bottom of this page is the playlist of all the videos from the show, over 25 or so total!

Let's start with the familiar favorite Collette and the Mudcats, who can do Robert Johnson like no one's business and belt out their own originals that rock and roll you, of whom I did not get a photo that night, but below is a gif I made from a previous show. They play mostly blues faves as well as their own original music which has been released on an EP CD already. You can find more info and booking at their website:
http://colletteandthemudcats.com/

Let's feature one of their blues original songs, What Have I Done, something we can ALL relate to, right?

Larry Mar & the 11th Hour Band were also new to me, but luckily I did get plenty of photos (and videos of ALL the bands of course) of them. However they do not have a website & I have no contact info for them at this time, sorry.

[Larry Mar & the 11th Hour Band]

And for the featured Larry Mar & the 11th Hour video, let's try this classic 70's song by Spirit:

And last but far from least, we have the newly formed 1979 Band, and I must say I was a bit mesmerized by their guitar player Jim Dower (more photos of him and his guitar below these), Joe McDowwell from Collette and the Mudcats played bass and I can't remember the drummer's name (poor guy, he deserves a serious mention because I've never heard someone make a 4 drum kit sound like Led Zeppelin's Bonham was on those skins!). This band is awesome, an understatement actually, you'll have to see them to believe it, and I'll post a few videos below so you'll know just what I mean. If you get a change to see them, GO! This band can be reached on their website (and it links to the Facebook page as well) at:

[Collage of mostly Jim Dower on his guitar & the 1979 Band & Larry Mar Band]

Now, Jim Dower will probably turn a bit purple with shyness, but I had a kind of fixation on him and his guitar ever since the 1st time I saw him sit in with another band months ago. Well, now he's playing lead guitar in his own band, and I'm sorry to say, instead of getting the entire 1979 Band in photos, I somehow kept gravitating back to the face averted shy Dower, maybe next time when I see the band for an entire evening, I'll be able to include a photo of the full band? Guess I have a thing for guitars, drummers, shoot, I just have a thing for good music, and I can't help myself, get over it ;-)

For an brand new formed band, these guys are tight as hell! One of my favorite covers of the night by 1979 Band blew me away at how exquisitely & spot on were the musicianship of this featured video, but please check out their Cream song (which heads the playlist at bottom), it is OMFG unbelievably magnificent too:

And lastly, the playlist of ALL the videos from the show, in no order, except I must confess my favorites kind of lead the list, so they are in no order as far as band names. Enjoy and please share with your music loving family and friends!

Willie Playmore Trio at P-House 8-15-14

The Willie Playmore Trio performed live at the Panther Mountain Inn, Chestertown, NY on Aug. 15, 2014 from 9p-1a, with more classic folk rock and a jazz flavor (thanks to the bass guitarist, wow does he know how to finger & stroke that bass!) to their overall sound and playlist. So refreshing to hear different songs than the usual bands play, and the harmonizing on these videos--or watching them live as I did--kind of blew me away.

Especially check out American Pie, which the crowd sang along to, while the drummer and bassist acted out some of the lyrics to a hilarious reaction from all, so much fun!

The playlist starts off with a very rare opportunity to film one of Curt Cleveland's original songs, not performed in a very long time, titled "Little Girl".

Click on the video below to start the playlist from Friday night's show at the Panther Mountain Inn in Chestertown, NY with the Willie Playmore Trio.

Fade 2 Blues 6-13-14

Fade to Blues are normally a 3-piece band but on this night they had an awesome keyboard player friend of theirs, Skip Smaldone of Glens Falls NY, plus several guest musicians, singers and a few dancers & other silliness going on. Crowd pleasing music that had us singing along (yes even me, ==blush==) and the dance floor packed wall to wall most of the evening.

[The 3 regular members of Fade to Blues]

[Their awesome keyboard friend Chris I think is his name]

Unfortunately I had pulled my back out the night before their show, so I wasn't able to get my usual active angles, though I got plenty of close ups and unusual perspectives despite the pain, I just couldn't help myself, the music moved me so deeply I had to try and capture that energy to share with music lovers like me, who don't just listen, we FEEL the rhythm and share in the energy flowing.

This video below starts the 22 song playlist of Fade to Blues videos from 6-13-14.
Playing true West Texas blues, some of the best I've ever seen or heard, both covers and original music, the Fade to Blues band performed live on Friday June 13, 2014 at Panther Mountain Inn Pub in Chestertown, NY from 9p-1a, both a full moon and Friday the 13th, a rare night indeed.

I really loved the energy of these long blues jams, with some songs 13 minutes long and most over 5 minutes, incredible lead guitar solos and keyboard solos. There were even a few sexy men & women who danced for the camera, front and center! I know we'll be seeing a lot more of this band in the months to come, and I plan to re-film another of their shows ASAP. Maybe next time I'll be able to even dance & leave the camcorder on a tripod for once (just briefly, you know I'm a hand held gal all the way ;)

Rockology LIVE 2014

I finally caught up with Rockology and filmed 8 videos from their show at Panther Mountain Inn, Chestertown, NY last night, 5-16-14. I hadn't realized it's been nearly two years since I last filmed their live show! Hopefully it won't be that long before I get to see and hear their classic rock excellence again.

With a powerful female drummer & lead vocalist, a thumping bass guitarist & lead vocalist plus a sizzling lead guitar & back up vocalist, Rockology is David Hamell, John Wardle and Rhonda Barnes.

Unfortunately I could find no website or online info for the band, but will try and get some to share later. Rockology performs in the upstate NY, Southern Adirondacks area. I did not get any photos of the band this time, so will plan to bring a camera with me next time and get some shots of Rockology for fans to see.

Below is the playlist of all videos I've done of this band, starting with the 8 new videos from last night's show, followed by their 2012 show videos. Enjoy!

12 Oz All Stars 4-11-14

The 12 Oz All Stars are the former Cosmic Jackson band minus Chris Schemp who is replaced on lead guitar by regular bassist Brian Mull and adding Tom Ryzuk as the new bass guitar player, with Greg singing lead and Andrew drumming. I believe this may have been their 1st show since forming, so I only filmed a few videos on this occasion. A couple of the videos were dark, so forgive me adding the thermal effect to those ;-)

Live performance music videos from Panther Mountain Inn, Chestertown, NY, on April 11, 2014 from approx. 9p-1a.

Below is Stevie Wonder's Superstitious cover:

Following is the playlist of the 5 videos I did last night of the new formation 12 Oz All Stars (formerly Cosmic Jackson), at Panther Mountain Inn in Chestertown, NY.

Collette & the Mudcats LIVE 3-21-14

I've filmed many amazing shows since I last posted an update, but somehow never got to posting them here. Spank me, I deserve it, I know. Today I've got some blues done right, originals and covers by one of my top fave local bands, with a playlist at the bottom and a sample video here:

Joe McDowell & friends with guest guitarist Jim Dower (?) are the same band without Collette singing, with the addition of a fantastic new guitarist jamming just this night (so many guest musicians sat in this night, including 2 drummers and a conga player) and get their own billing. Joe on harmonica was killer this evening, I'm so glad I didn't miss this show. Lucky for you, I happened to capture some of their greatness on video:

Collette & the Mudcats, McDowell and Friends included, playlist from 3-21-14 show at Panther Mountain Inn, Chestertown, NY 9p-1a, with the newest show videos (& their own original song & music video for Carolina) up top followed by previous performances below.

That's all for this update, however I promise to post regularly again after each show, as I always did before. So stay tuned ;-) Thanks & enjoy!

Frank Palangi Live at P-House 8-16-13

Frank Palangi performed Friday Aug. 16, 2013 in Chestertown, NY at the Panther Mountain Inn pub, from 8p-12a. Frank is a songwriter and accomplished musician with 3 albums released so far of original songs & recently opened for Alice in Chains & Jane's Addiction at SPAC. Winner of many awards, he is one of the most stunningly talented and hard working artists I've ever known.

Frank is friendly & enjoys riling up the crowd & satisfying fans wherever he goes. This night there were a few out of town fans who traveled up to see him play live, Joelle Tanner and her mother, pictured below, posing with Frank on one of his performance breaks. Does anyone know an artist who just opened for big name famous bands one week, and posing with fans in rural upstate NY the next? Then he signed just about every CD he sold at the show, including mine of course.

In his early 20's, he appears as such a young innocent, that when the heavy metal growling kicks in, one wonders how he does it, so slight of frame, and with a big smile on his face, he floors audiences, and wins them over, wherever he goes, including a bar used to a more sedate repertoire of music like country, folk and blues. The younger AND older patrons welcomed him with open arms, appreciating the freshness and energy as well as his sound.

If you get a chance to see him perform, don't miss it! See below for videos, playlist and more!

Americade Bikers, band Sons of Octomom & Bass Diva at P-House 5-7-13

I wasn't going to film on Friday night, in fact, wasn't even going to go see the show. BUT a couple friends begged me to go, and I rarely leave without a camcorder because I don't want to miss something rare. So Friday June 7, 2013, The Sons of Octomom band played at Panther Mountain Inn here in Chestertown, NY from about 8p-12:20a, and man am I glad I went! The lighting was great for these videos, twelve in all, not counting the funny t-shirt video.

Sons of Octomom band consists of Eric Peter on lead vocals and acoustic lead guitar, his 19 year old son Tyler Peter on drums (no nepotism here, he is just one of the most phenomenal drummers I've ever seen), and Jeff Belding on bass guitar.

Eric Peter, leader of Sons of Octomom and numerous other bands.

On this rare evening, Michelle "Bass Diva" Howland performed 2 songs with the band, Some Kind of Wonderful as lead singer and bass guitarist while Jeff took a break, and another, Proud Mary, as backup vocals, and she nailed it! The crowd went wild for her as usual, not that Jeff isn't a favorite bass player as well, his energy cranks up the crowd, not to mention his talent on those strings.

Here's one of my favorite songs of the night, by a band I hadn't heard of before and now need to explore much more of, Camel Walk by Southern Culture on the Skids.

Since this past week was the annual event in Lake George, NY for Americade, there were plenty of bikers enjoying the show and a break from the rain, the parking lot packed with gorgeous motorcycles, which I was forced to take a couple photos of this wicked ape-hanger custom that glittered like diamonds even though it was pitch black dark out.

Too bad the Sanyo GH4 camcorder isn't ideal for photography, but the pics below should still give you an idea of the awesomeness of the bike.

There were a group from Westchester County, NY I had a drink with before leaving, and this cool older dude had the best t-shirt of them all in the bar that night. While trying to take a pic of the shirt, I pressed the video button and ended up with a short video of the shirt too (See the playlist for that video along with the other 12 of the band, at bottom of this page).
OLD GUYS RULE, yes, they do! ;-)

And finally, the playlist of videos from the show, starting with Tyler Peter on drums doing a Buddy Holly cover, Not Fade Away:

The band Sons of Octomom cover rockabilly, surfer music and folk, with a few surprises thrown in from classic rock and reggae, this is a group not to be missed. Check them out fully at http://ericpetermusic.com/

Steven Smith Band Live at Ashes Pub 5-31-13

8 new videos in the playlist below that I filmed at Ashes Pub in Warrensburg, NY on Friday 5-31-13, of Steven L. Smith Band & Metamorphose Jones. The video below links to the playlist at: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD9CA09B04E5CF4E7

One of my favorites of the show, Faces - Ooh La La cover 9 minute jam:

Get a peek of me at 0:04 and 3:34 or so, since our designated driver Chris filmed this one while I took a break:

On May 31, 2013 Steven L Smith Band & Metamorphose Jones performed at Ashes Pub http://www.ashespubandgrill.com/ in Warrensburg, NY. I was lucky enough to be there to film 7 videos that night, having not seen them in nearly a year. The place was packed wall to wall and the dance floor full all night long.

Playlist of videos from last Friday 5-24-13 at Panther Mountain Inn:

Songs Filmed Include (in order):
  1. Bob Marley-Get Up, Stand Up
  2. Janis Joplin-Me & Bobby McGee
  3. Sublime-What I Got
  4. Lynyrd Skynyrd-Sweet Home Alabama (snippet of 1:22)
  5. Johnny Cash-Folsom Prison Blues

Live HD video from the show filmed, edited & uploaded by Gina Jordan, 5-24-13.

Unfortunately my new Canon camcorder is malfunctioning, LCD screen issues, so I used my older Sanyo, but without good lighting in the venue or band provided lights, the videos always come out darker than I like and degrade the HD quality. I've added effects to some that give a psychedelic look instead.

Fatdog, Bass Diva & Mr. Smith 3-29-13 at P-House

Fatdog, Bass Diva & Mr. Smith are an ensemble that hadn't performed together in this configuration in over 20 years, though they have played together in other combinations, never this one. The trio performed Friday March 29, 2013 at Panther Mountain Inn, Chestertown, NY, from 9p-1a, to a standing room only crowd, a packed dance floor and a very actively appreciative crowd of fans and bar-goers.

They did this one early at my request, and had only done it twice before this night. I got a sideview, Bass Diva sings lead, and Bill from Flipside adds his vocals towards the end. A bar patron is holding up the lyric sheet for Bass Diva, with zooms on her singing. Lastly I got behind the drummer about 90 seconds before the end of the song for a different perspective to end the night. The lighting was very poor, so forgive the darkness in the footage.

PLAYLIST OF ALL 12 VIDEOS, BELOW:

The band is made up of:
Eric "Fatdog" Griffen, Lead guitar & vocals
Michelle "Bass Diva" Howland, Bass guitar & vocals
Jason "Mr. Smith" Smith, drums

*CASTING CALL! Dancers & Actors Needed for Music Videos*

I'm attempting to create or acquire original content for several music video projects, and need people for the following gigs. Ideally a person will create their own videos doing these scenes, or have someone video them, or use a tripod, etc. I doubt many would come to my area for me to film them, but I'd do that too. These are for exposure mainly, will include your credits, websites, channels (youtube/vimeo/etc), whatever you like, and if you put up the gig on fiverr.com will pay you $5 for each of your submission for these projects that I hire you to do. That's how fiverr works :) I'm not a big movie director, this is not going to earn me money, this is for music videos for bands that will be on youtube and promoted out all over. if interested in any or all of these gigs, please let me know and do share this anywhere there might be people interested in doing this. You can also email me at ginazoneny@gmail.com

*Gigs I Need Done*--each can be separate people/gigs or combined by one person:

* Female-Slow sexy dancing, hands behind head for part of it, stroke down body, looking at camcorder entire time with very confident sexy look on face, dark or low light background, ideally in a bar or club, or at least uncluttered background, for 30 seconds or full 4 minute bluesy rock song. For bluesy slow rock song Long Island Iced Tea.

* Female-Bartender mixing a Long Island Iced Tea, doing a slow sexy wiggle while smiling and having fun with it, about 30 seconds or however long it takes to make the drink, ideally an ice cold sweating beaded glass for the drink with close up on the glass, beads of dripping liquid for a few seconds of it. For bluesy slow rock song Long Island Iced Tea.

* Females and Males-Slow sexy dancing while smiling and showing off your tattoos, for a bluesy rock song called Show me Your tattoo. ideally low light or dark bar or club, at very least uncluttered background with low light but still able to see you clearly. Lick lips, caress body, look at camcorder as much as you can, look confident and knowing you are VERY sexy, TEASE is very important also.

* Couples, any genders/races-I need several different gigs along these lines: holding hands, kissing, slow dancing, arguing and making up, soulful looking at one another, romance themes, love, breaking up, getting back together, rejection and attraction, picking someone up in a bar, going on dates, taking walks on the beach, this kind of thing in one minute or longer scenes. For other video projects, music videos mainly.

* Men or women, any ages/races/etc-Dancing of any style from rap to tribal fusion, shuffle to square dancing, couples or individuals or groups. Full songs preferred, about 4 minutes or so, but can be compiled from different shoots/locations you choose, into one video of same length. This would be your chance to have your talent exposed all over the internet and perhaps be seen by people looking to hire dancers for big money projects, with your contact info provided, etc. Music will be replaced, so use whatever music you like :)

(ALL body types & races, the attitude is what's important; sexy clothing of any kind, does NOT have to be swimsuit style or skin exposure, just nothing ridiculous or that will get censored--jeans and t-shirt is fine as long as you look confident and sexy doing the video :)

Please pass this on to whomever might be interested and thanks :)

Flipside & Wayne Stock 5 Music Festival 8-4-12

The annual free outdoor music festival Wayne Stock 5 was held Aug. 4, 2012, and while I was set to film the entire event, I ended up getting heat stroke within 45 minutes in the 90+ degree heat with equal humidity, so ended up only getting nearly the full set of the band Flipside. I filmed a total of 5 videos including 4 song videos and one 15 minute long tripod mount with 3 long songs. I was not the only one to succumb to the heat, am not sure how the many many volunteers, bands and staff lasted through the full event, and I'm very disappointed with myself for having missed the later bands, especially Cosmic Jackson who had originally gotten me involved with the WS festival filming.

The event was a great success, with a Harley Davidson motorcycle raffle and many gorgeous guitars and other donated goods auctioned off, face painting and food vendors, all to benefit the North Country Hardship Fund, plus a snow making machine blowing icy mist up on the hill to cool everyone off (though in that heat after a total drenching I was dry within seconds!), so many people working very hard to make sure a good time was had by all.

The rain and storms forecasted turned out to be hot air, literally, though all were prepared for the worst, and cloud cover did come in about 6pm, nothing came of it, to the dismay of those hoping for a soaking to cool off.

I want to thank Chris Schemp of Cosmic Jackson for inviting me, and apologize for not being there to film their closing performance of this event. I arrived a bit before 3pm and was gone by 4:30pm, though I fought the heat stroke for 45 minutes, I eventually was forced to leave to save my life, and it took more than 12 hours to cool my hyperthermia back within normal temps, to stop getting sick and shivering. I'm sure I'm not the only one treating a serious sunburn today either, dumb of me not to have brought sunblock. I was more worried about bug spray, and ironically was never bothered by our famous black flies.

I also want to thank my ex-husband Stephen Cipolla who volunteered as my gofer, for I would have never been able to drive myself home and was grateful he'd driven us to the show. We cooled off a bit at Panther Mountain Inn on the way home, where I bought us both dinner to go for later (I was way too ill to eat then, or to cook later), and then I was down for the count.

I had planned to attempt live streaming of the event via youtube and a google hangout, but one thing I completely forgot, there was no internet other than a very limited wifi that did not reach the stage area where I needed to be to capture it via webcam on my laptop. So that was a brain fart, not sure how to meet that challenge next year, which I hope to attend and that nature will have mercy on us heat-wise (as this was an unusual weather situation for our area). To all those who made it through the event, and who donated time, goods, labor and more, I offer a million kudos and thanks.

S.L. Smith & Metamorphose Jones Band 7-13-12

I always enjoy seeing Steven L. Smith & Metamorphose Jones Band play whenever I get the chance, and July 13, 2012 was no exception. Their line up has changed since the last time I filmed them at P-House, their old bass player is back & they were sounding better and LOUDER than ever. Luckily my camcorder does excellent audio, so no distortion, sometimes I wish it would show just how LOUD the music was. My ears were numb for a couple hours after & I only stayed for the 1st set, but that's what happens when one stands in front of professional PA's, 4 of them no less in this band, filming live music. No other band numbs my ears like these guys do, except maybe the Willie Playmore Band.

I love the fancy swirling lights these guys use, makes my videos look fancier than usual. I enjoyed my favorite meal of Buffalo Chicken tenders with hand cut skin-on fries, and a couple ice cold Smirnoff Ice's (though Keith assures me they will be getting in my favorite raspberry flavored SI again soon, the plain tastes too much like the yucky Fresca of old), all for under $20 including a generous tip. The bands play every Friday night, free cover, from 8pm-12am or sometimes 9pm-1am. If you are looking for a fun night out in a gorgeous mountain region setting, fantastic food at great prices and cold drinks to cool off the summer heat, the Panther Mountain Inn is your destination place. Right in the heart of Chestertown across from the Carol Theater on Riverside Drive, is the bar parking lot.

Here's the 11 video playlist below of 11 total, 8 videos from last night's show at P-House, 8pm-1am, plus 3 from the festival at the end of it. I missed out on the last song of the 1st set which was an incredible blues jam piece I regret with chagrin having put my camcorder away too soon. That song still haunts me, wishing I had filmed it as it was one I would have watched again and again and again...I learned to never put my camcorder away when they are still holding their instruments, lol.

Enjoy the show,

Gina
